OF NEW YORK CITY
The Veggie Center
The Veggie Center of New York City opened in 1999 and stayed in operation until 2016. It provided (a) an event and meeting place, (b) a staging area for outreach, and (c) an archival depot for research. Click for event images, vintage memorabilia, flyers, and posters.
Great Ephemera Project
Thousands of heartfelt letters were sent to the VivaVegie Society beginning in the early 1990s through the early 2000s. There was such a huge accumulation of letters that most just could not be stored. About 80 percent were tossed. Today, all that's left are 20 spiral-bound books, jam-packed with them. Click here to view several thousand of them, preserved in PDF format. They tell a story of a very special time and place that shall never return again. They tell a story of the vegan collective mind, showing itself to have a tremendously big heart. It's a phenomenon to observe (in ephemera form) if for only that reason alone.
